Harwich Angling Club, at the weekend, fished the fifth of a series of six Essex Inter Club League matches at Southminster Lakes.

With the venue looking in a very good condition on a bright and sunny day with the temperature, after a cold night, just into double figures and on the rise, Harwich hopes were high for maintaining their current good form. With their best team available and drawing peg number six for all the six sections, along with the bait selection and presentation being crucial depending on which of the seven lakes each angler drew, it was going to be a challenging task for the team to improve on their current fifth position in the league.

When the results came in, it turned out to be a very close match for the club. Harwich Angling Club finished in second place achieving a team total of 44 points and was beaten only by one point by Chelmsford B team on 45 points.

With everyone in the squad picking up valuable points, it was mainly due to three of the clubs top match anglers who are currently in great form. John Shepard (peg A6) led the way, weighing in with 10lbs 5ozs to finish first in his section picking up 10 points. Also Paul Chambers (peg B6) weighing in with 7lbs 4.5ozs and Bob Oakley (peg C6) weighing in with 9lbs 9ozs and both finishing second in their sections picking up 9 points each.

The other members in the squad were Graeme Edgar (peg D6) with 5lbs 11ozs getting 7 points, Keith Allen (peg F6) with 3lbs 13.5ozs getting 5 points and Dave Brown (peg E6) with 1lb 0oz getting 4 points.

This fine result for Harwich has improved their league position to fourth place. With the last match in the series not being until 10th January 2010 on the Maldon Canal, Harwich Angling Club, who are 7 points behind the leaders Maldon and only 2.5 points behind CAPS A team in second place and 1 point behind Chelmsford B team in third place, will be looking to further improve their final league position.
