The overall winner of Harwich Angling Clubs series of six Mid Week Evening matches was going to be decided in the very last match. On a bright, dry evening with a slight wind, the river still looking in good colour and condition, there was another good show of anglers looking to become the champion of the series. Fishing the section of river from pegs C18 to C38 for this decider match, every angler was looking for the quality bonus fish in their swims.

At the end of match whistle, although everyone had fish in their nets, it was the tree pegs on the bend that proved to be the best swims. At the weigh-in it was the in form match angler Graeme Edgar (C28 peg) fishing the pole mainly in the margins, who won the match with an all silver fish weight of 3lbs 8ozs. Following in second place was Keith Allen (C27 peg) with 2lbs 0ozs of silver fish with Laurie Snell (C26 peg) getting third place with 1lbs 11ozs.

When all the results from this series of matches were verified it proved to be very close. By just 2 average points, the Champion of the Mid Week Evening matches for season 2010/2011 is Graeme Edgar (pictured below). Graeme certainly knows how to get the best fishing from Dock River, being the most consistent with the appropriate tactics, bait and presentation, finishing no lower than second place in any of the matches.

Harwich Angling Club, following consultation with the Environment Agency, have together finally carried out the river maintenance work to Dock River. The Club would like to thank the Environment Agency for this much needed cutting back the reeds and the removal of weeds/rubbish from the river, which has taken place over the last three weeks from Ramsey end to the Harwich pumps end. This work has now been completed by the EA along with some helping hands from club members who returned any fish back to the water. The river is now looking in good condition and is part of an ongoing exercise to try and bring it back to its former glory.

Members have given the thumbs up to what has been done to the river and are keen to get back and see what the fishing is like.

One of these was club member Chris Demery who was very pleased with his visit to Dock River, one week after the completion of the works on C pegs section, having a good catch of fish including a 4lbs Bream caught on 11th August 2010 from C28 peg. (see photo below)
