BF/ESL MATCH 1

'At the weekend Harwich Angling Club travelled to Fennes Fisheries at Bocking to fish Round 1, being the first in a series of five matches, in the newly formed Big Fish/Essex Summer League. With the Hobbs Croft and Hill & Black lakes looking in good condition, it was only the weather that was disappointing. On a dull, chilly, rainy and blustery day, Harwich Angling Club put out their strongest team available. With the random draw for pegs, it was going to be a tough task. Although every angler put fish in their nets, the weather certainly kept the weights down. When all the results came in, Harwich Angling Club finished in a respectable 4th place for the match achieving a team total of 21 points due to everyone in the team picking up some points. Leading the way were two of the clubs top match anglers. John Shepard (C6 Hobbs Croft) weighing in with 25lbs 9ozs and Bob Oakley (B7 Hobbs Croft) weighing in with 9lbs 8ozs, who both finished second in their sections picking up a valuable 6 points each. John Shepard also came in a fantastic 3rd place overall in the match. The other members in the squad were Keith Allen (D5 Hill & Black) with 8lbs 10ozs getting 4 points, Graeme Edgar (F3 Hill & Black) with 9lbs 11ozs getting 2 points, Dave Brown (A1 Hobbs Croft) with 2lbs 0ozs getting 2 points and Laurie Snell (E4 Hill & Black) with 2lbs 3ozs getting 1 point. With a good strength in depth squad for this season, Harwich Angling Club will be looking to improve for Round 2 being held on the Maldon Canal on Sunday 21st June 2009
