'At the weekend Harwich Angling Club travelled to the Maldon Canal to fish Round 2, being the second in a series of five matches, in the Big Fish/Essex Summer League. On a bright, sunny and overcast day, Harwich Angling Club put out their strongest team available. With four sections being held on the Heybridge Basin and two sections being held on the Cemetery section, together with the random draw method for pegs, it was going to be a tough match. Although every angler put fish in their nets, the weights were down and only a few anglers weighed in with double figure catches. When all the results came in, Harwich Angling Club finished in a disappointing 6th place for the match achieving a team total of only 17 points even though everyone in the team picked up some points. The best performance for Harwich AC was from top match angler John Shepard (A4 Heybridge Basin) weighing in with 10lbs 11.5ozs, who won his section picking up 7 points. John Shepard also finished in a fantastic 3rd place overall in the match. The other members in the squad were Jonathon Coote (B3 Heybridge Basin) with 4lbs 7ozs getting 4 points, Bob Oakley (F6 Cemetery section) with 0lb 10ozs getting 2 points, Laurie Snell (E7 Cemetery section) with 0lb 11ozs getting 2 points, Andy Kinsey (D1 Heybridge Basin) with 2lbs 2ozs getting 1 point and Keith Allen (C2 Heybridge Basin) with 0lb 3ozs getting 1 point. Harwich Angling Club are currently in 6th place in the league with 38 points and will be looking to improve their form for Round 3 at Puddledock on Sunday 26th July 2009
