On 14th July Harwich Angling Club competed in the National Federation of Anglers (NFA) Division Three National 2007 Championship match held on the River Ouse at Ten Mile Bank and Littleport in Cambridgeshire. With 37 teams of 10 anglers from all over the country competing on a dry, overcast but very windy day, Harwich Angling Club had got together their strongest match team squad and were hoping to improve on last years performance and result.
With the weather conditions proving difficult for long pole fishing, the feeder approach to the far side bank became an option. When the results came in Harwich Angling Club finished in a magnificent 12th place with 213 team points and gained promotion to Division Two.
The most notable performance was from Harwich Angling Clubs local top match angler Paul Chambers (Wickford Browning) on section K fishing the feeder line who finished in an outstanding 2nd place overall in the match with 13.15 kg of mainly bream and a valuable 36 team points. Other good results came from John Shepard (sect B) and Graeme Edgar (sect E) who both finished 9th in their sections with each receiving 29 team points. The other members of the squad were Laurie Snell (sect A), John Pettitt (sect C), Bob Oakley (sect D), Dave Brown (sect F), Russell Foulger (sect G), Steve Mucklow (sect H) and Andy Kinsey (sect J).
The club are looking forward to fishing in the NFA Division Two National 2008 Championship on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal next year and to further improve on their performance.
