'Harwich Angling Club travelled north to Doncaster to compete in the Angling Trust (AT) Division Three National 2009 Championship match held on the River Don Navigation and New Junction Canal.
With 23 teams of ten anglers from all over the country competing on a bright and sunny day, Harwich Angling Club had got together their strongest match team squad.
With the venues in looking in good condition every angler was looking forward to a good but hard match.
When the results came in Harwich Angling Club finished in a magnificent 11th place with 119 team points and it was announced that we would be promoted to division two.
The most notable performances were from two of the squads top match anglers Danny Grimsey and Keith Gooderham.
Danny on peg F 05, won his section with a weight of 2700 grams of silver fish and bream and picked up 23 points. Keith on peg G 16, not only came second in his section with a weight of 3120 grams and picked up 22 points, but also finished in an outstanding seventh place overall in the match.
Other good results came from Simon Colclough on peg B 11, finishing seventh in his section with a weight of 1330 grams and getting 17 points and John Pettitt on peg K 13, finishing eighth in his section with a weight of 820 grams and getting 16 points.
The other members of the squad were Andy Kinsey (A 08) a weight of 760 grams and Laurie Snell (E 02) a weight of 460 grams both getting 9 points each, Graeme Edgar (C 11) a weight of 650 grams getting 8 points, Paul Chambers (D 14) a weight of 590 grams getting 7 points, Paul Connell (H 15) a weight of 150 grams and Dave Brown (J 17) a weight of 110 grams both getting 4 points each.
The club are looking forward to fishing the AT division two National 2010 Championship on the Erewash Canal next year and to further improve on their performance.
