At the weekend Harwich Angling Club travelled to Heybridge/Maldon to fish the first of six Essex Inter Club League matches for the 2008/2009 season. With the venues looking in good condition on a sunny, bright and gusty day, Harwich Angling Club put out their strongest team available. Drawing peg number 7 for all the six sections it was going to be a tough task. When all the results came in, it was a close match with the top three teams all being within 10.50 points of each other. Harwich Angling Club finished in a respectable 3rd place for the match achieving a team total of 40 points due to everyone in the team picking up some points. It was John Pettitt (C7 Heybridge Basin) who led the way, weighing in with 6lbs 11ozs to finish second in his section picking up a valuable 9 points. Also Paul Chambers (B7 Heybridge Basin) weighing in with 3lbs 7ozs and John Shepard (E7 Chapmans section) weighing in with 2lbs 5ozs, both finished third in their sections and picking up 8 points each. The other members of the squad were Laurie Snell (A7 Heybridge Basin) with 2lbs 14ozs getting 7 points, Graeme Edgar (D7 Cemetery section) with 1lb 1oz getting 6 points and Dave Brown (F7 Golf Course section) with 0lb 3.5ozs getting 2 points. Being the first match of the new season, it means Harwich Angling Club are in 3rd place in the league, however they will be looking to improve even further in the remaining matches.
