E.I.C.L. MATCH 1

Harwich Angling Club, during the close season, strengthened their match team squad with match angler Jonathan Coote and it proved to be justified immediately.

At the weekend Harwich Angling Club travelled to Southminster Lakes to fish the first of a series of six Essex Inter Club League matches.

With their strongest team available on a bright and sunny day with the venue looking in good condition hopes were high.

Drawing peg 7 for all six sections it was going to be a good challenge for the team.

When all the results came in, it was a close match with the top three teams all being within 9.5 points of each other.

Harwich Angling Club finished in third place achieving a team total of 37.5 points due to everyone in the team picking up some valuable points.

It was mainly due to two of the squad. Bob Oakley (B7 Pit 1) mastered the conditions perfectly and weighed in with an outstanding 68lbs 11ozs to finish second in his section picking up 9 points and in a magnificent 2nd place overall in the match. Also new member Jonathan Coote (E7 Pit 6) had a great match, weighing in with 15lbs 13.5ozs to win his section, picking up 10 points.

The other members in the squad were Dave Brown (D7 Pit 6) with 11lbs 6ozs getting 6 points, Paul Chambers (F7 Pits split 4/8) with 6lbs 4ozs getting 5.5 points, Keith Allen (A7 Pits split 5/9) with 2lbs 11ozs getting 5 points and Laurie Snell (C7 Pit 3) with 1lb 14ozs getting 2 points. Harwich Angling Club will be looking to improve further in the remaining matches.

The first in a series of six Mid Week Evening club matches took place during the week on C section of Dock River. With a good turn out of club members competing on a sunny and warm evening, with the river a bit clear and with some weed growth, everyone was looking for the bonus bream in their swims for this silver fish only match. With everyone putting fish in their nets, at the weigh-in it was Paul Chambers (C13 peg) fishing the pole who came out on top with a winning of 3lbs 15ozs of small silver fish. Closely following in second place was Harold Griffiths (C11 peg) with 3lbs 1oz of silver fish including a fine 3/4lb roach. In third place was John Pettitt (C27 peg) with 1lb 8.5ozs.
