E.I.C.L. Match 3

At the weekend Harwich Angling Club hosted the third in the series of six Essex Inter Club League - Division 1 matches on the clubs B and C sections of Dock River.

On a bright, warm sunny day and gusty winds, with the river having some good colour and looking in very good condition, the correct tactics, bait and presentation would be vital in this 60 peg match.

Harwich Angling Club put out their strongest team for this home fixture, but it was going to be a tough challenge for the all the teams as this was to be a random peg match.

At the final whistle with every angler putting fish in their nets, every team awaited the results with interest.

When all the results came in, it turned out to be a very close match between all the 10 teams with only 23 points separating them and a total of over 155lbs of fish caught.

It was a good result for Harwich Angling Club finishing in third place, behind Maldon AS and CAPS 'A' teams who tied for first place, achieving a team total of 37 points due to everyone in the team picking up valuable points.

It was mainly due to two of the squad. Local match angler Dave Brown (D6) mastered the conditions well and weighed in with 7lbs 11ozs finishing second in his section, picking up 9 points and achieving a great 4th place overall in the match. Also Laurie Snell (F4) weighing in 3lbs 10ozs to finish second in his section, picking up 9 points.

This result has put Harwich Angling Club up into fourth place in the league with 19 points just 5 points behind the top team Maldon AS.

The other members of the squad were Bob Oakley (E9) with 1lbs 14ozs getting 7 points, Graeme Edgar (C10) with 1lbs 8ozs getting 5 point each, Paul Chambers (A4) with 1lbs 8ozs getting 4 points and John Shepard (B2) with 0lbs 11.5ozs getting 3 points.

With the next Essex Inter Club League match being held at Prestons, Pebmarsh on the Sunday 3rd October 2010, Harwich Angling Club will be looking to further improve their league position.
