At the weekend Harwich Angling Club travelled to Heybridge/Maldon to fish the third of six Essex Inter Club League matches for the 2008/2009 season. With all the venues looking in good condition on an overcast, bright, blustery and showery day, Harwich Angling Club put out their strongest team available. Drawing peg number 2 for all the six sections it was going to be a challenging task. When all the results came in, it was a close match with the top three teams all being within 3 points of each other. Harwich Angling Club finished in a fantastic 2nd place for the match achieving a team total of 44 points due to everyone in the team picking up some points. It was mainly down to three of the team. Leading the way was one of the clubs top match anglers Russell Foulger (C2 Heybridge Basin) weighing in with 5lbs 2.5ozs and Laurie Snell (D2 Cemetery section) weighing in with 3lbs 3ozs, who both got their tactics just right and won their sections, picking up a valuable 10 points each. Also John Shepard (E2 Tesco section) weighing in with 1lb 14.5ozs to finish third in his section picking up 8 points. The other members of the squad were Graeme Edgar (A2 Heybridge Basin) with 9lbs 3ozs getting 6 points, Bob Oakley (B2 Heybridge section) with 6lbs 4.5ozs getting 7 points and Paul Chambers (F2 Golf Course section) with 1lb 6.5ozs getting 3 points. This excellent result has maintained Harwich Angling Clubs second place position in the league with 25 points and now are only two points behind the top placed team Maldon AC. With a good strength in depth squad this season, Harwich Angling Club will be wanting to maintain this current form and be looking to improve even further in the remaining matches.
