At the weekend Harwich Angling Club travelled to Prestons Lake, Pebmarsh to fish the fourth of six Essex Inter Club League matches for the 2008/2009 season. With the venue looking in good condition on an overcast, chilly, windy and rainy day, Harwich Angling Club put out their strongest team available. Drawing peg number 10 for all the six sections it was going to be a challenging task. When all the results came in, it was a close match with the top three teams all being within 5 points of each other. Harwich Angling Club finished in joint 5th place for the match achieving a team total of 34 section points due to everyone in the team picking up some points. It was mainly down to two of the team. Leading the way were two of the clubs top match anglers who are both in outstanding form this season. John Shepard (B10) weighing in with 28lbs 1ozs and Bob Oakley (A10) weighing in with 18lbs 12ozs, who both got their tactics just right and won their sections, picking up a valuable 10 points each. John Shepard also won the overall match on the day and also got through to the quarter finals of the Individual Knockout competition and Bob Oakley also came 3rd overall in the match on the day. The other members of the squad were Laurie Snell (C10) with 4lbs 2.5ozs getting 3 points, Dave Brown (D10) with 5lbs 4ozs getting 5 points, Keith Allen (E10) with 4lbs 0.5ozs getting 3 points and Graeme Edgar (F10) with 5lb 10ozs getting 3 points. This result has maintained Harwich Angling Clubs second place position in the league with 30.5 points and are 6.5 points behind the top placed team Maldon AC. With a good strength in depth squad this season, Harwich Angling Club will be wanting to maintain this current form and be looking to improve in the remaining two matches.
