On Sunday 4th October 2009 Harwich Angling Club travelled to Prestons Lake, Pebmarsh to fish the fourth of six Essex Inter Club League matches for the 2009/2010 season. With the venue looking in good condition on a bright and sunny day, Harwich Angling Club put out their strongest team available. Drawing random pegs numbers for each of the six sections it was going to be a challenging task. When all the results came in, it was a close match with the top four teams all being within 5 points of each other. Harwich Angling Club finished in a fantastic 1st place on the day for the match achieving a team total of 43 section points due to everyone in the team picking up some points. It was mainly down to three of the team. Leading the way were three of the clubs top match anglers who are currently in outstanding form. John Shepard (peg 36) weighing in with 24lbs 1oz and Bob Oakley (peg 4) weighing in with 22lbs 1oz, who both got their tactics just right and won their sections, picking up a valuable 10 points each. John also came 2nd overall in the match on the day with Bob finishing close behind in 3rd place. Also Dave Brown (peg 44) finishing second in his section weighing in with 6lbs 4.5ozs picking up 9 points. The other members of the squad were Graeme Edgar (peg 14) with 8lbs 0.5ozs getting 7 points, Jonathan Coote (peg 53) with 4bs 2.5ozs getting 6 points and also winning his way to the semi finals of the Individual Knockout competition and Keith Allen (peg 26) with 5lbs 10ozs getting 1 point. This result has maintained Harwich Angling Clubs fifth place position in the league with 27 points and now are only 5 points behind the second placed CAPS A team and 11 points behind the top placed team Maldon AC. With a good strength in depth squad this season, Harwich Angling Club will be wanting to maintain this current form and be looking to improve in the remaining two matches.
