At the weekend Harwich Angling Club travelled to the River Wid, Ivy Barn Lake and Highlands Lake to fish the second of six Essex Inter Club League matches for the 2008/2009 season. With both lakes and the river looking in good condition on a warm, bright and sunny day, Harwich Angling Club put out their strongest team available. Drawing peg number 2 for all the six sections it was going to be a difficult task, with everyone hoping to find and land some bonus fish in their swims. When all the results came in, it turned out to be a very close match with the top three teams all being within 4 points of each other and the next three teams all tying for fourth place on 34 points. Harwich Angling Club finished in a respectable 3rd place for the match achieving a team total of 38 points due to everyone in the team picking up some points. It was mainly down to two of the team. Leading the way was Graeme Edgar (F2 Ivy Barn), who got the tactics just right, weighing in with an outstanding 14lbs 1ozs to win his section picking up a valuable 10 points and finishing in a magnificent first place overall in the match.. Closely followed by John Shepard (C2 Highlands) who also did very well, weighing in with 4lbs 0.5ozs to finish second in his section picking up 9 points. The other members of the squad were Laurie Snell (A2 River Wid) with 4lbs 6.5ozs getting 6 points, Russell Foulger (B2 River Wid) with 1lb 2.5ozs getting 6 points, Bob Oakley (D2 Highlands) with 1lb 13ozs getting 4 points and Paul Chambers (E2 Ivy Barn) with 0lb 12ozs getting 3 points. This good result has put Harwich Angling Club up into second place in the league. With a good strength in depth squad this season, Harwich Angling Club will be wanting to maintain this current form and be looking to improve even further in the remaining matches
