E.I.C.L MATCH 6

At the weekend Harwich Angling Club travelled to the Maldon Canal to fish the sixth and last in the series of Essex Inter Club League matches for the 2008/2009 season. This was the reserve date venue as the Blashford Lakes fixture, that was to be held two weeks ago, were iced over and the match could not take place.

On a windy, rainy, overcast and chilly day, with the water showing a lot of colour and with a steady flow, Harwich Angling Club put out their strongest team available.

Drawing peg number 2 for all the six sections, together with the tactics and bait selection/presentation being crucial, it was going to be a tough task for the club to hold on to their second place league position.

When all the results came in, it was shown to be a low weight match with no angler getting into double figures and a few not catching any fish.

Harwich Angling Club finished in a good hard fought third place for the match, achieving a team total of 39 points due to everyone in the team picking up some valuable points. It was mainly down to two of the team. Firstly, leading the way with a great individual performance, from one of the clubs top match anglers, was John Shepard (B2 Turning Bay section),who fished it just about right, weighing in with 5lbs 12ozs to win his section and picking up 10 points and finishing in a magnificent first place overall in the match. This fine result also put John into finishing in joint third place in the EICL Individual KO League with 53 points. Closely following was Paul Chambers (A2 Bembridge Hotel section) who also did very well, weighing in with 2lbs 4ozs to finish second in his section picking up 9 points. The other members of the squad were Bob Oakley (D2 Factory/Tesco section) with 1lbs 6ozs getting 7 points, Dave Brown (E2 Tesco section) with 0lbs 12.5ozs getting 6 points, Graeme Edgar (C2 Factory section) with 0lbs 9.5ozs getting 5 points and Laurie Snell (F2 Tesco section) with 0lbs 7.25ozs getting 2 points.

This great result secured Harwich Angling Club as the runners-up with 42.5 league points in the Essex Inter Club League for 2008/2009 season.

Harwich Angling Club will be looking to further strengthen their match team squad to give them still more strength in depth before the start of the EICL 2009/2010 season which starts on 28th June 2009 at Billericay DAC Southminster venue.
