Harwich Angling Club, at the weekend, travelled to the joint venues of the River Stour and River Glem in Suffolk, to fish in the last of the six Essex Inter Club League matches.
With their strongest team available on a bright and fresh day, with the rivers looking in good condition and a steady flow, everyone was expecting a hard and close match. Drawing peg number 1 for all the six sections everyone was looking to go for the silver fish in their swims and trying to pick up any bonus fish. When all the results came in, it showed it was tough going, with low weights all round and some anglers not even catching. Harwich Angling Club finished in joint 5th place achieving a team total of 27 points. This was mainly due to a good performance from Dave Brown (A1) who finished 2nd in his section getting 8 points with a weight of 1 11.5ozs. He was supported by Paul Chambers (F1), Graeme Edgar (C1) and John Shepard (B1) who all finished fourth in their sections getting 6 points each with weights of 5lbs 10ozs, 1lb 5.5ozs and 1lb 2ozs respectively. The other members of the squad were Laurie Snell (D1) with 0lb 1.5ozs getting 1 point and Bob Oakley (E1) who did not weigh in. When the individual league points, for each angler, were totalled up over all the six matches it was very close with the top 4 places all being within 4 points of each other. Harwich Angling Clubs match angler John Shepard (see picture) finished in a respectable joint 4th place with 40 points. Harwich Angling Club finished in 6th place in the league for 2007/2008 season.
