Harwich Angling Club held its annual HAC Open Match at the weekend on C Section of Dock River. On an overcast, drizzly, gusty, mild day with the river, although still quite weedy, in good colour and with a slight flow, all the anglers were hoping to catch some carp in this all fish count open match.
From the start of the match it soon became apparent that the carp had sheltered up in and around the middle numbered pegs.
At the final whistle it was Dave Brown (HAC), on peg 14, who found the carp in his swim and easily won the match. Fishing the pole, to the edge of some weed on the far side of the river using worm, he had a great 36lbs 14ozs weight of five carp to 12lbs along with an eel to 2lbs and bits. In second place was Russell Foulger (HAC), on peg 20, with a weight of 19lbs 8ozs of all carp. In third place was Andy Gale (HAC), on peg 10, having a 10lbs 15ozs weight of a carp and bits with Graeme Edgar (HAC), on peg 45, in fourth place with a 6lbs 0ozs weight of bream and skimmers. With the top 5 places in the match all going to HAC members, knowledge of their local river certainly paid dividends.
