Harwich Angling Club held, last week, its annual Dock River Sweepstake match on C pegs section of the river. With the river looking in very good condition, following the Environment Agency completing their recent works, there was a good turn out of Club members for this match. On a bright, sunny and warm day, fishing the high number C pegs end, every angler was hoping for the carp to show in their swim for this all fish count match.
For about the first hour of the match it was clear that the carp were not showing along this stretch of the river and a change to their approach was needed, namely to go for the silver fish.
With everyone putting fish in their nets, at the final whistle it proved to be a close match.
It was won by Laurie Snell, (peg C44), fishing the pole across to the far side reeds and down the nearside margins on worm and maggot, with a 3lbs 0oz weight of an all roach net. In second place was Graeme Edgar, (peg C38), with a weight 2lbs 0oz of roach and perch with a tie for third place between Dave Brown, (peg C40), and Keith Allen, (peg C34), both with a weight of 1lb 8ozs
